Pantry & Fridge Expiry Tracker
Log what you've stored and when — see a best-by date computed from the USDA storage chart.
Best-by dates are the storage date plus the shortest end of the USDA FoodSafety.gov — Cold Food Storage Chart range for that food and location — pure date math on a published guideline, not a freshness judgment. Your items are saved only in this browser (localStorage) — nothing is sent to us.

Frequently asked
- How is the best-by date calculated?
- We take the date you say you stored the item and add the shortest number of days in the USDA FoodSafety.gov Cold Food Storage Chart range for that food and location (fridge or freezer). It's arithmetic on the published range, not a freshness test or our own estimate.
- Is my pantry list sent to MenuSafe or stored on a server?
- No. Everything is saved only in your browser's local storage. We collect no accounts, no emails, and no list of what's in your fridge. Clearing your browser data clears your tracked items.
- Why does the tracker say 'no numeric USDA guidance' for some items?
- A few entries on the USDA chart are written as guidance rather than a duration (for example "Do not freeze" or "Does not freeze well"). We only compute a date from entries that give an actual day/week/month range, so we don't invent a number where USDA didn't publish one.
- Does "best-by" mean the food is unsafe to eat after that date?
- Not necessarily — USDA's ranges are for quality and safety guidance, and the shortest end is the conservative side of their published range. Always also check for spoilage signs (smell, texture, mold) and use judgment, especially for higher-risk foods.
