Hidden Allergen Names

Photograph or upload a label — or paste the text — and we highlight words that may indicate each major allergen.

⚠ This flags terms we recognize from published allergen lists. A missing flag does NOT mean an allergen is absent — recipes change and not every name is on any list. Always read the full label and the manufacturer's “Contains” statement, and confirm with the manufacturer if your reaction risk is severe.

Frequently asked

Is whey a dairy ingredient?
Yes. Whey is a protein from milk, so "whey" on a label indicates the milk allergen. Casein, caseinate, lactose and lactalbumin are also milk-derived (FDA / FARE).
Does "may contain" mean the food has the allergen?
Not necessarily. "May contain" is a voluntary precautionary statement about possible cross-contact, not a declared ingredient. The binding information is the ingredient list and the "Contains" statement required by the FDA.
If an allergen isn't flagged here, is the food safe?
No. A missing flag does not mean the allergen is absent — recipes change and not every name appears on any published list. Always read the full label and the "Contains" statement, and confirm with the manufacturer if your reaction risk is severe.
Allergen names follow FDA — Food Allergies (FALCPA + FASTER Act) and FARE — Common Allergens (avoidance lists). Informational only, not medical advice.
